European Christmas Tree Decoration Exchange 2017
On Friday 27th October, the Literacy Department within the Gozo College organised a parental session on pre-writing skills, in collaboration with the Occupational Therapy Department within the Gozo General Hospital. Ms. Elaine Ciantar Head of Department Literacy and Ms. Theresien Mizzi Allied Health Practitioner Occupational Therapist led the session. Parents were given practical activities on how to help their children enhance their pre writing skills with simple activities which can be carried out at home. A selection of specific resources which are available at the Gozo Literacy Resource Centre for all educators to use in schools, were shared with the parents.
A booklet with the practical activities was disseminated with parents through the schools. The booklet is also available for download here.
Activities for the Development of Pre-writing and Writing Skills
This parental session is part of an ongoing project between the Literacy Department within the Gozo College and the Occupational Therapy Department within the Gozo General Hospital aiming at helping schools and parents work through a common platform to help the students develop proper pre writing skills as preparation for writing.
On the 27th October 2017, the Gozo College Student Council Middle school invited Ms Lisa Kock and Ms Sarah Stafrace from Kellimni.com. They delivered a talk to year 11 on mental health and the services that kellimni.com offers for young people to benefit from. Students were also informed about this initiative that is an online support service run by trained staff and volunteers reachable through e-mail, chat and smart messaging 24/7 for support. Students were also able to ask questions about the services that they provide.
On the 27th October, the pink October day was organised at the Gozo College Student Council Middle School, to commemorate breast cancer awareness. The aim of this activity was to raise funds for a good cause were the school decided to give all the donations collected to Marigold Foundat
