A short programme of activities organised by a number of peripatetic teachers within the Gozo College, on Thursday, 13th November 2014 signalled the reactivation of the Education, Science, and Culture Centre (ESCC).
The centre, which is housed at the historic Dar il-Lunzjata, at the gateway to Gozo’s idyllic valley of Wied il-Lunzjata, between Victoria and Kercem, will now serve as a place where an array of educational activities can be organized in the welcoming and peaceful setting provided by the Lunzjata Valley.
World Diabetes Day (WDD) was celebrated worldwide on November 14. Led by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), WDD was created in 1991 by IDF and the World Health Organization in response to growing concerns about the escalating health threat posed by diabetes.
Several schools within the Gozo College organised a number of activities to draw the attention of the students to the day as well as to the challenge of diabetes. Activities at the Gozo College included balloon releasing by students taking on Friday, 14th November and healthy breakfasts in several schools on the days leading to WDD. Can the prevailing perception among students, especially at the pre-University stages, hat learning of Science can never be fun, changed?
Through a series of mathematics and science popularisation events the Department of Curriculum Management would tried to dispel the notion that Science and Mathematics are not fun.
During a week long event entitled ‘X`hemM? Il-Gnien 2014′, students coming from the different Year 4 classes within the Gozo College participated in a number of hands on mathematical and scientific activities designed to promote a problem-solving approach among the participants in an out of class setting.
The event lasted between Monday, 17th and Friday, 21st November, was held at the Villa Rundle Gardens, Victoria, Gozo, from 8.30am till 12.30pm.
This Wall Event at the Sir Michael Angelo Refalo Sixth Form, Rabat, Gozo will be a symbolic celebration held to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). The event is being organised by the Children’s forum within the President’s Foundation for the Wellbeing of Society.
All those present will have the opportunity to write their ideas about the wellbeing of children on the wall. Through this event the Children’s forum, within The President’s Foundation for the Well Being of Society, aims to raise awareness of CRC’s role in enhancing children’s wellbeing and at the same time give exposure to the Children’s Forum. This event will also serve as a consultation meeting to collect information regarding the effect of the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the wellbeing of children. The activity in Gozo is being supported of the Office of the Gozo College Principal.
The popular Battery Buster Campaign is back once again.
As always, the aim of the campaign is to raise awareness among children and teenagers about the need to make sustainable use batteries as well as the need to dispose properly spent batteries, since these are classified as hazardous waste and require special treatment. The Directorate for EcoGozo Regional Development would like to invite the general public for a special morning session on Tuesday, 25th November 2014 at the Government Farm Hall, Xewkija from 9.30am to 11.30am. This activity is part of the actions being taken on the occasion of the European Week for Waste Reduction. Parents of student attending at the Gozo College are urged to participate in the activity.
The aim of this event is to give practical examples and ideas about the 3Rs – reusing, reducing and recycling – and at the same time enhance creativity.
A chef, seamstress, artist and an expert from the agricultural sector will be delivering the talks. Each speaker will focus on practices manageable at home.

A few weeks before the end Scholastic Year 2013 – 2014, the Gozo College launched the Fourth Volume of the Journal of Educational Studies.
The Journal sets out to celebrate the true spirit of life-long education by publishing the researched papers of Gozitan educators, who, as a result are enhancing the quality of education. The just published 4th Volume presents a selection of subjects and a diversity of authors from various educational strands.
Nurturing inspiration and connection for a meaningful life for a performative arena
The seminar was held on Friday 30th May 2014 from 6.00 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. for educators in Gozo, including those following the Post Graduate Course on Educational Administration, Management, and Leadership. Prof Christopher Bezzina animated the session. Tokens were presented to the Gozo College Principal, Mr Victor Galea, and to Dr Frank Abela, Head of School GC Boys’ Secondary School.
